Laundry

1-2 small pouches with 3-4 soap nut halves within are put into the drum of the washing machine. The amount can be changed according to how dirty the laundry is and you will soon know how many soap nuts your laundry requires. Soap nut shucks can be reused a few times before disposing of them with other biodegradable waste.
Soap nuts will leave the laundry soft, so there is no need for a fabric softener. Soap nuts can be used for machine and handwash and it is good for all fabrics, even silk and wool. When washing by hand, a small amount of soap nut solution is added in the water.
Soapnuts are unscented, but if you prefer your laundry scented, you can add a few drops of essential oil in the washing machine.

Soap nut solution can be made by boiling or soaking a handful of soap nuts in a liter of water. Boil water and poach soap nuts in it for at least 15 minutes or soak soap nuts in water overnight. Crushed nuts dissolve faster. Sieve soap nuts from the solution and store the solution in a cool place. The solution will be preserved for one week.
